SUCCESSFUL Rescue Stories

Hi Anne,
I just wanted to send a quick update on Ozzy (who now goes by the name Jake!). He is doing so great, what a good boy! He and our girl Sadie have bonded quickly, he follows her everywhere. She is 6 years old, but he has her running around like a pup again – it is great to see.
We took him to the Sandy River Delta, a 1400 acre off leash area where he had a blast playing with lots of dogs and always came running when called. His 6th week of basic obedience class is this weekend, and he has started wearing backpack on our leash walks (soon I hope to add a little weight to wear him out more quickly and get him ready for summer hiking). We haven’t had any issues with digging, and he is a rock star in the crate. He goes to doggy daycare 4 days a week and they love him there, he apparently wears out all the other dogs
Thanks for being the avenue for us bringing this great dog into our lives, and for all the work you do for so many other dogs.
~ Kayla

“In the summer of 2012, my husband and I decided it was time to add another family member to our young pack. We were still mourning the loss of our beloved “Buster”, our Rottweiler mix who passed away due to complications with diabetes, but having felt that pain before, we understood that helping another dog in need would likely speed the healing process ever so slightly.

After perusing petfinder, we came across the cutest little Shepherd/Rottweiler mix that immediately stole our hearts! We submitted our adoption application that very day, and were able to meet him a couple weeks later. The whole family fell in love with him, and let’s just say it’s been a happy ending for all of us! Thor loves my husband the best (he’s the boss), but also loves long distance running with me (we’ve been running about 10-13 miles each run), and swimming/playing in the river with our kids. He is incredibly sweet, loyal, protective, and loving. He also enjoys chasing our horses, which nobody likes, but hey – we’re all works in process, aren’t we?

Our whole family wants to say THANK YOU to Valhalla Rescue and all the volunteers. Thank you to Patti and Anne – without you, Thor, and so many other dogs, would not be safe, loved, secure, and healthy. We also want to thank Thor’s foster family, who opened their hearts and their home to a very special dog. You were his first family, and we appreciate you!”
